Like most movies that try to appeal to the nostalgia of an iconic original, it fails to live up to it’s predecessor. This doesn’t make it a bad film, it’s actually reasonably entertaining, but there’s nothing about it that really makes it good.
I gave it some points because it did give me a laugh or two, but it seems like someone tried to recapture the effect of the first films, without understanding what made them great the first time.
Taken on it’s own it’s pretty middle of the road, the whole thing felt a bit manufactured, like this is movie made to tick boxes that together are supposed to equal profit. And it’ll probably make money too, which is bad because it just encourages more of the same mediocrity.

I saw some other reviews talk about how their handling of time travel was bad and things like that. Guys, get over yourselves! This is not going to be submitted to any film festivals, and it probably won’t win any awards. That shouldn’t matter. The idea that the world could be united through music is the only thing that the movie is trying to say, and they accomplished that. That idea makes me happy, and it should also make you happy. It’s silly and light-hearted and for an hour and a half it made me forget that we’re living in an absolute dumpster fire.
